2019 Workshop Sessions:​​

Youth Initiated Mentoring

In 2014, MENTOR Nebraska became the first in the country to implement this model in a community based, one-on-one program. The model has been specifically deployed to support youth who have been involved in the juvenile justice system, a population of youth who have not been well supported by a traditional mentoring model.

Practices to Deepen Relationships

This experiential workshop will be an active inquiry in how we can deepen relationships with velocity. The workshop will be filled with exercises and activities for participants to take back to use with their mentors, mentees or both. This session works to deepen connection on multiple levels: between mentors and mentees, between staff and matches and with one’s self.

Increasing Youth Voice

The effectiveness of our work and the capacity at which we can effectively reach more young people, will only improve when we empower our young people to teach us. Come and learn how well you/your organization is utilizing youth voice, as well as learn what our young people are presently trying to teach us.

Working With Boys of Color

This workshop focuses on the prevailing disposition regarding students of color in general in this country, but boys of color in particular. We also focus on how those dispositions bleed into the schooling process and the impact on the attitudes, experiences, and social/academic outcomes of young men of color.

Redefining Leadership

Leadership is a buzzword that gets thrown around quite a bit! But we must take a multi-layered dimensional approach to unpack leadership responsibly. We will re-envision leadership, challenge our current thinking and commit to moving forward in our views of how we lead others. If impact matters to you, then this workshop will empower you in at any level of leadership.

Creating Safe and Inclusive Mentoring Services for LGBTQ Youth

From program climate to match support, intentionally serving LGBTQ youth requires awareness, commitment, and program champions willing to work together to update policies, practices, and activities. Attendees will be able to use the supplement to better assess their agency’s own policies, practices, and activities associated with reducing risks for LGBTQ youth.

Ensuring a Legacy

Together, Glenna will guide you to explore three issues to ensuring a lasting legacy:  building a high performing board, succession planning and potential strategic partnerships.  This session is designed exclusively for executive directors, board members and C-level non-profits leaders to have an opportunity to learn with and from each other.

Trauma, Triggers, and Transference

In this workshop we will cover the basics of what trauma looks like in the brain and body. We will discuss common traumas and triggers that can arise in everyday life of youth. You will leave this workshop knowing more about how trauma manifests and develop some skills to be supportive to your mentee in a meaningful, thoughtful manner.

WhyRaceCultureDifference&YouMatter! The intersectionality of experiences that make or break us!

This two-part series goes deeply into why race, culture, difference & you matter. We will explore the intersectionality of experiences that make or break us. Must be present for BOTH parts in order to participate. Part One will delve into self-discovery, race and culture along with a proficiency assessment in equity and cultural responsiveness. Part Two builds on part one to move us from trauma-informed to trauma-responsive individuals & organizations.
